True Spirituality

"For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh"

Ask the average person in the street what it means to be spiritual and you will get people saying things like, " a spiritual person is someone who is in touch with the universe, his feelings, or knows how to appeal to his higher self.

But what does the bible have to say about the subject?

Unbelief, Its Curse, Its Cause, Its Cure

Matthew 13:54-58

When He (Jesus) had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us?.Where then did this man get all these things?" So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not with out honor except in his own country and in his own house." Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

After giving a powerful teaching to His disciples concerning the kingdom of God, Jesus traveled to His home town Nazareth. In Nazareth unbelief filled the hearts of His own people. It is here that Matthew says that Jesus did no mighty works because of their unbelief. The gospel of Mark records the same incident saying that Jesus could do no mighty work, and that Jesus marveled at their unbelief. Mark 6:5-6

Joy Killers

Nehemiah 8:10

Then He said unto them, go your way eat and drink.......for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

The joy of the Lord is the Christians strength, without which he is easily defeated by life's trials. Even the most devout Christians have, at some point in their lives, experienced periods of sadness and depression.
